The National Youth At Risk Program Sustainability Study . Even though the human resource and economic resource investments in community- based programs are substantial, and despite what is known about the nature of successful programs, the matter of what sustains programs is less clear (Lerner, 1. Mancini & Marek, 1. The research and analyses reported here are designed to address some of the deficits in our understanding of program sustainability, specifically for at risk audiences, and reflects the second phase in a multi- year study of community- based programs that are targeted to at risk youth and families. The long- term goals of this research project are to document project longevity for at risk audiences and the processes that underlie it, to build a program sustainability conceptual framework, and to develop a community- level sustainability assessment inventory. Because sustainability is multifaceted, the approach reflected in our study is ecological and takes into consideration individuals, families, programs, and communities. Prevention Programs in Fairfax County. Virginia.gov - The Official. Lifelines seeks to increase the likelihood that staff and students know how to identify at-risk youth when they encounter them. Virginia Department of Health - Youth Violence and Bullying: Youth violence and bullying are major public health. Consequently, across the various analyses, elements of each of them are addressed, and where possible the interrelationships between them are discussed. It is our assumption that sustainability cannot be fully understood without knowing how individuals, families, programs, and communities influence one another, in both positive and negative ways; moreover, we assume that each of these elements has a unique contribution to sustainability. As examples, community support for a program emerges from individuals and families, structural aspects of the community (such as public transportation) can encourage or impede program access, and whether a program is consonant with community needs will affect its own success. The central questions addressed in this report are: What is the current status of youth at risk projects originally funded by this USDA initiative 2 1/2 years after USDA funding ended? What are the dominant ways that projects have continued? What are the past and present roles of Cooperative Extension in supporting community- based projects for at risk youth and families? Since 1. 99. 6 CSREES has provided funding for hardware, software, technical assistance and training to community- based YAR projects which are supported by new State Strengthening Projects. The purpose is to insure the success and sustainability of local programs by linking them to the information, programs, research and other services of the university, the Cooperative Extension System, the Children, Youth, and Family Network, as well as to other community- based projects. The emphasis is on connecting program staff and citizens in low- income communities . Projects were given a list of sustainability mechanisms and were asked which were used over the past year. These data are provided in Table 5 and compared to the previous year. In addition, project personnel were asked what they believed facilitated their project. This information supports the data provided in Table 5 and also provides more detail about Community Support, Collaboration, and CES/University Support. The types of mechanisms used to sustain projects remained consistent over the past year. However, the prevalence of certain types of mechanisms significantly increased (Table 5). These include: Community Collaboration and Support, Grants/Contract/Foundation Funding, and Leadership Changes. The number of projects which expanded their programs over the past year significantly increased while the number of projects which reduced their programs over the past year significantly decreased. With the exception of Grant/Foundation/ Contract funding, there were no significant differences between the use of various mechanisms and the level of program activity for the sustained projects in 1. Data indicate that Expanded programs are more likely to receive Grant/Foundation/Contract funding for sustaining their program than are Reduced programs. Further analysis also revealed that for this data set, Expanded programs utilize a greater number of mechanisms than do Reduced programs. Table 5: Mechanisms Used by Projects to Sustain 1. Number. Leadership Changes*1. Connectivity. 13. Facilitated Continuity of Programs. When project personnel were asked what has helped continue their projects the following three major areas emerged: Community Support: This support was discussed in a number of ways. They spoke of how their communities had a deep commitment to their projects, trusted their projects, and in general supported their projects. Specifically, schools, community agencies, and local colleges/ universities were mentioned as providing necessary support to their projects. Collaboration: Collaboration with community agencies, programs, and individuals was mentioned as being a key to their projects' continued success. Although there was a wide variety in how these collaborations were established and functioned, a commonality was that they worked together to support programming for youth and their families. CES and University Support: A strong commitment to continue supporting projects facilitated the continuity of projects, especially in the face of funding crises in their communities. Provision of computers and internet connectivity by USDA was viewed as providing the ability to maintain and develop linkages with other professionals. In addition, computers made technology based programming for youth and families possible. Unnecessary Vista Features You Can Disable Right Now. Vista, thy name is bloat! And we can hear all the talk about the aid program being aligned with Australia's national interests, which, I think Australia's national interest in this realm is all about enabling people to escape the ravages of poverty. And I would have thought that's in our national interest. So there's the unknown. It sends a message to the countries we provide aid to, that aid is no longer necessarily always going to be given priority for humanitarian purposes. In the past, it's always been understood that Australian aid does serve two purposes: humanitarian interest, but also Australia's national interest, and that's perfectly fine and understandable, but it may seem now that that priority has been shifted and that Australian national interests are taking priority. The second message it gives is to the Australian public, that the Australian aid program perhaps hasn't been as efficient as it could be and therefore allows it to be more open to financial cuts in any budget revisions that might occur. It's just a government clean- swipe. It's almost like 'let's a take a swipe at the Labor government' because Aus. C Programming is an ANSI/ISO standard and powerful programming language for developing real time applications. C programming language was invented by Dennis Ritchie at the Bell Laboratories in 1. It was invented for implementing UNIX operating system. C is most widely used programming language even today. All other programming languages were derived directly or indirectly from C programming concepts. This tutorial explains all basic concepts in C like history of C language, data types, keywords, constants, variables, operators, expressions, control statements, array, pointer, string, library functions, structures and unions etc. This C tutorial is designed for the new learners, students and also for the corporate level developers who want to learn and refresh their C programming skills. C programming history: The C language is a structure oriented programming language, was developed at Bell Laboratories in 1. Dennis Ritchie. C language features were derived from an earlier language called . C language was invented for implementing UNIX operating system. This is common to all C programs and there is no exception, whether its a very small C program or very large program. Structure of a C program is defined by a set of rules called protocol, to be followed by programmer while writing a C program. These functions are declared and related macros are defined in . Data types are used to define a variable before using in a program. Size of variable, const and array are determined by data types. There are four data types in the C language. All are explained in this page with definition and simple example programs. C tokens are the basic building blocks in C language which are constructed together to write a C program. Each program element in a C program is given a name called identifiers. But, the only difference is, their values can’t be modified by the program once they are defined. Constants refer to fixed values. They are also called as literals. Constants may be belonging to any of the data type. This location is used to hold the value of the variable. The value of the C variable may get changed in the program. The C variable might be belonging to any of the data types like int, float, char etc. These C operators join individual constants and variables to form expressions. Operators, functions, constants and variables are combined together to form expressions. In C programming, there are 3 types of decision making control statements in C language. Control comes out of the loop statements once the condition becomes false. There are 3 types of loop control statements in C language. There are 4 types of case control statements in C programming. They are 1) switch 2) break 3) continue 4) goto. There are two types of qualifiers available in C programming. They are 1) const 2) volatile. Constants are also like normal variables. There are 4 storage class specifiers available in C language. You can store group of data of the same data type in an array. There are 2 types of arrays in C programming. They are 1) One dimensional array 2) Multidimensional array. This null character indicates the end of the string. In C programming, strings are always enclosed by double quotes. Whereas, character is enclosed by single quotes in C. C Pointer is used to allocate memory dynamically, . The variable might be any of the data types such as int, float, char, double, short etc. Normal variable stores the value, whereas pointer variable stores the address of the variable. All C programs are written using functions to improve re- usability, understandability and to keep track of them. A large C program is divided into basic building blocks called C function. C function contains set of instructions enclosed by . Each library function in C programming language performs a specific operation. We can make use of these library functions to get the pre- defined output instead of writing our own code to get those outputs. In real time application, it will happen to pass arguments to the main program itself. In C8. 9 standard, fixed arguments only can be passed to the functions. When a function gets the number of arguments that changes at run time, we can go for a variable length arguments. We are walking you through all topics in this c programming tutorial which are explained clearly even for very beginners for C programming. We have given few real time application programs with output in this C tutorial. Real time application for reference: 1. Ritchie, The C Programming Language, Prentice- Hall. Second edition, 1.
